Supporting Research on HIV Prevalence, Indicators, and Services
MEASURE DHS is contributing to the world’s understanding of the HIV pandemic. The project now measures national HIV prevalence and collects data on internationally recognized AIDS indicators and on the capacity of health care facilities to deliver HIV prevention and treatment services.
HIV Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviors
DHS and AIS surveys measure many AIDS related indicators, including knowledge of HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS prevention methods, attitudes towards those with HIV/AIDS, and HIV/AIDS related behaviors such as higher-risk sex and HIV testing. |
Delivery of HIV/AIDS Related Services (HIV SPA)
The HIV/AIDS SPA focuses on the delivery of preventive care and support services. It provides data on all indicators in the President’s Emergency Plan, including voluntary counseling and testing, prevention of maternal-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, and antiretroviral therapy. Learn more>>

Qualitative Research
Qualitative Research complements survey findings and increases understanding of HIV-related behavior, for example, people’s willingness to be tested. Qualitative research also improves survey questions, leading to more accurate data. Learn more>>

MEASURE DHS and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief
The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief calls for prevention, treatment, and care for people with HIV and children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. The Emergency Plan works in over 120 countries, with an emphasis on 15 countries in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. These countries, which are home to about 50% of HIV infections worldwide, are Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guyana, Haiti, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia. MEASURE DHS offers several survey instruments designed to collect data to monitor progress toward meeting the strategic goals set by the Emergency Plan, international agencies and national governments.
