Abstract:

In This study, data from the 1988 Egypt Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) are used to explore the multidimensionality of Egyptian women's autonomy. Three indices-the customary autonomy index, the noncustomary autonomy index, and the realized autonomy index-each measuring a different dimension of autonomy, are defined.
