Abstract:

The primary purpose of this report is to present comparable information of marriage and first births for countries participating in the DHS I program. The report is divided into several sections: a description of DHS procedures for the collection of data on marriage and first birth; a set of international comparisons for DHS countries on several measures of current marital status and marital stability; exposure to childbearing among never-married women; and age at marriage and age at first birth.
