MEASURE DHS provides decisionmakers and program managers with the information necessary to plan, monitor, and evaluate population, health, and nutrition programs. MEASURE DHS also plays a major role in furthering international understanding of global population and health trends.
MEASURE DHS activities support family planning, reproductive health, maternal health, child survival, and HIV/AIDS/STI programs through data collection, analysis, and evaluation designed to improve program performance and better understand program impact.
For each survey project, MEASURE DHS provides the following services:
- Data
Collection and Analysis
Support a range of data collection options that can be tailored to fit specific monitoring and evaluation needs of host countries.
- Collaboration
and Coordination
Collaborate with local and international organizations as much as possible in order to cut costs, share resources, and increase interagency communication and cooperation. Once the survey results are released, collaboration occurs on the ground as MEASURE DHS works with other organizations to disseminate the data to a wide range of audiences. MEASURE DHS also participates in international consortia, such as Roll Back Malaria and UNAIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group, to provide technical guidance on survey research.
- Dissemination
and Data Use
Disseminate research results and facilitate their use in program design and evaluation through participatory seminars, audience-centered materials, web-based tools, and other technologies that translate data into information accessible to a wide range of audiences.
- Capacity Building
Provide training and support throughout every phase of a survey to help local organizations understand, use, and analyze MEASURE DHS data to inform programs and policies. In addition, the supplies and tools used during the survey, such as scales, geographic position systems (GPS) units, and computers, remain in the country for future use.
- Research and Analysis
Analysis of DHS data provides more in-depth understanding of health issues within a country and synthesizes information from across multiple DHS surveys that can be essential to informing policy and programs.
